Smart governance and performance improvement of Latvian municipalities

On August 5, specialists of T3 cooperation network gathered in a meeting which was hosted by Jelgava municipality.  The main topics of the meeting were development aspects of housing policy, current problems of housing policy in Latvia and their possible solutions. In addition, Jelgava municipality shared its experience in housing management in the municipality. During the second part of the meeting participants exchanged their best practices and involved in discussion, moderated by Mr Ģirts Beikmanis, Chair of the Board of the Latvian Association of housing managers, and Mr Aino Salmiņš, coordinator of project’s T-3 cooperation network.

The meeting of T3-1 network for local government investment policy for public services and road maintenance and construction was Held in June 10 at Pārgauja municipality. The municipality shared its experience on organization of public services and fund rising. However, Vidzeme planning region told about the plan “Transport on demand”. These presentations were followed by discussions about organization of transport for pupils  in local governments, as well as site visit in order to observe best practice examples in waste management in ZAAO, Ltd landfill in Daibe.

In June 16, meeting of T1 Network for strategic management of local governments  takes place in Gulbene municipality. Self-governments, involved in this network, share their experience in achievements so far. Afternoon session of the meeting gives participants opportunity to visit “Ķelmēni” bakery in Ranka rural municipality and vegetable processing company “Dimdiņi” in Lizums rural municipality.
